Architecture of Consequence. Dutch and Norwegian Designs on the Future

9 March–27 May 2012

The National Museum – Architecture, Norway

The exhibition Architecture of Consequence. Dutch and Norwegian Designs on the Future showed how architecture can create a more sustainable future and help solve global challenges. Ten renowned Dutch architectural firms presented possible answers to societal issues in food production, health and care, energy, time, space and social contexts.

Participants: 2012Architecten, Atelier Kempe Thill, biq stadsontwerp, Must urbanism, OMA, Powerhouse Company, Rietveld Landscape, STEALTH.unlimited, ZUS, Van Bergen Kolpa Architecten.

In the project and exhibition Ardent Spirits the architects Helen & Hard linked the themes to conditions in Norway: Outlying districts are being depopulated while the country´s oil will one day be exhausted. New solutions to provide versatile industrial foundations and a sustainable future development is needed.

Ardent Spirits explored idealism and creativity, focusing on individuals with a passion for their ideas and initiatives as the bedrock of sustainable development. Twenty-five idealists from all around Norway were chosen for project. What they had in common, is the will to combine innovation and profitability with a strong desire to contribute to a green and sustainable future in their local community.

The international travelling exhibition Architecture of Consequence was produced by NAI (Netherlands Architecture Institut) and was put on show in four continents.

Ardent Spirits was produced as a commentary to Architecture of Consequence, in a collaboration between The National Museum and Helen & Hard Architects.
