20 under 40. Young Norwegian Architecture 2004

14 October–19 December 2004.

The Norwegian Museum of Architecture / The National Museum, Norway.

The exhibition went on tour to galleries and museums within Norway from 2005 until 2007.

Who are currently the most noteworthy young architects in Norway, and how do they work?

What are the new trends in Norwegian architecture?

With the exhibition “20 under 40. Young Norwegian Architecture 2004”, the National Museum, wanted to give a glimpse of young architecture in Norway.

The exhibition presented the work of 20 emerging young architect offices. The projects varied in size; from a mini cabin by the Hardangerfjord in the western part of Norway and a light installation at Nydalen subway station in Oslo. A skate hall i Bærum, outside Oslo and an urban development in Riga. The projects were presented through text, sketches, drawings, models, photos, film, material samples and large scale installations

The exhibition is part of a tradition. In 1988, Galleri Rom organized an exhibition about young Norwegian architects. In 1998, the Norwegian Architecture Museum produced the exhibition 20 under 40. Young Norwegian architecture.

The 20 participants were selected by a jury: Einar Hagem (Lund Hagem Architects), Ingerid Helsing Almaas (Byggekunst), Ståle Stenslie (National Touring Exhibitions) and Eva Madshus (The National Museum)

20 under 40 was produced by the National Museum in collaboration with the National Touring Exhibitions.
