Architect Oscar Niemeyer in Oslo

19 February–13 March 2005

The Norwegian Museum of Architecture

In 1988, the Norwegian art collector Kaare Berntsen went to visit the star architect Oscar Niemeyer in Brazil, to ask him to draw a house situated by the Oslo Fjord in Norway.

The exhibition “Architect Oscar Niemeyer in Oslo” presented 10 sketches and a model of the project; a building which unfortunately was never realized.  Various Norwegian architects have visited Oscar Niemeyer’s impressive buildings in Brazil in recent years. Through some of these architects’ photographs and sketches, the audience got a glimpse of Niemeyer’s most important buildings, such as: The church, dance hall, restaurant and casino in Pamphula, Belo Horizonte, the Ciccillo Matarazzo pavilion in the Parque do Ibirapuera, São Paulo, the architect´s own residence in Canoas, Rio de Janairo, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Niterói and other architectural highlights drawn by Oscar Niemeyer.
